We just celebrated HVBC’s 15th year in business and my 31st anniversary as a trainer—whoa! As I was out on my run the other day, I started thinking about something important:
What do people struggle with the most in their health and fitness journey?
After over three decades of coaching women, especially those over 40, I’ve seen a few common challenges. But instead of assuming, I want to hear directly from you.
Here are a few things that tend to hold people back:
1. Accountability
It’s easy to skip a workout, push off a meal prep, or ignore your wellness goals when no one is watching. Having someone to check in with, whether a coach, friend, or a supportive community, can make all the difference.
2. Motivation
Motivation comes and goes. Even the most committed people have days when it feels easier to hit snooze than to hit the gym. Finding ways to stay inspired—setting achievable goals, celebrating small wins, or joining a supportive group—keeps you moving forward.
3. Nutrition
Fueling your body properly is crucial, yet confusing. So many diets promise results, but the key is learning what works for you, your lifestyle, and your age. Small, consistent changes in nutrition often have the biggest long-term impact.
4. Support
This is huge, especially for women over 40. Life is busy, energy is different than it was in your 30s, and sometimes it feels like you’re trying to do it all alone. The right support network—whether it’s your trainer, a class, or a community—can help you stay consistent and confident.
These are just a few areas where women tell me they struggle. But here’s the thing: none of these challenges are permanent. With the right plan, guidance, and encouragement, you can overcome them.
